Hello, my name is Rick Miles. I live in Langwarrin on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. If you're wondering if this is the same Rick Miles you knew somewhere in the U.S, the answer is maybe.

If you are wondering what the weather's going to be where I live here's the most recent forecast for Frankston on the Mornington Peninsula.

This page has been neglected for a long time but I hope to bring it up to date sooner rather than later. I have removed some things and I hope to add some things as time goes by. If you have any comments or want to say hello you can send me an email addressing it to rickmiles at this domain.

Projects and Pics:

Closeup of LED pumpkin at night
I had wanted to make an Japanese andon lantern with flickering LEDs inside to simulate an oil and wick flame for quite some time. My first step was to come up with the circuit and with Halloween fast approaching I figured I'd do a proof of concept project using a paper mache jack o' lantern.
Closeup of LED pumpkin at night After my jack 0' lantern project I tried my hand at making a couple timber framed andon lanterns using the same circuit but modified to use transistors for switching 1 watt LEDs.
Custom stair and rail When I was a kid I used to go down in the basement and make things with whatever bits of wood I could find stacked up undr my fathers workbench. I've been working with wood ever since although when I came to Australia it was called timber. While the opportunity to do customer wood interiors and joinery in Australia never presented itself I did manage to keep my skills up and I've even learned to use some new exotic species such as melamine. The thumbnail to the left will take you to a gallery showing some of the work I've done over the years.
Recipes:

I often cook and enjoy doing so most of the time. The problem with my cooking is that I never write down my recipes. I suppose you could call it cooking by the seat of my pants. There are from time to time things I apparently cook well enough for other people to request the recipes. I have a mind to add a couple more and re-compose the two here but for now this will have to do.
Cornbread I can always remember cornbread around on someone's table but the cornbread I had a long time ago during a work weekend at Squirrel Mountain Zendo in North Carolina has always stuck in my mind. I developed this recipe over the years trying to duplicate that cornbread. This probably doesn't taste at all like it ...... probably just a fragment of my imagination.
Pasta Sauce Melody waited patiently three years for this recipe. I don't use meat and it lasts a long time in the fridge. Serve it hot over fresh cooked pasta or rice.
